Q: I have never detoxed before, what should I expect?

A: Detoxification, or detoxing for short, is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including the human body, which is mainly carried out by the liver.

Detox symptoms vary from person to person. Common detox symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  1. Skin breakouts
  2. Bloating or stomach pains
  3. Headaches
  4. Food cravings
  5. Trouble sleeping
  6. Nightmares
  7. Diarrhea and constipation
  8. Fatigue, drowsiness, and low energy levels
  9. Irritability
  10. Congestion or Mucus that feels like a cold

Q: What are some things I can do to alleviate detox symptoms?

A: There are many options when seeking relief from the discomforts of detoxing, the following is a list of remedies that have been the most effective from my experience.

  1. Consuming plenty of fluids to assist in the removal and flushing of toxins. My favorite is fresh juiced melons, (watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew), or fresh coconut water. You can also consume spring or alkaline water.
  2. Oil pulling. Oil pulling seems to alleviate the head pressure and also aid in the removal of excess mucus in the throat. 2 rounds may be necessary. Personally, I use coconut oil, sesame oil can be used as well.
  1. Lymphatic Drainage Massage. Toxins are carried out through various channels of the body, one being the blood. Once the blood is ready to eliminate, it dumps toxins into the lymphatic system for removal. Lymphatic drainage massage stimulates the lymphatic system and speeds up this process.

Of course, there are other processes and methods that work, these are the ones I have found to be most consistent and effective.

Q: What's the difference in detoxing and cleansing?

A: The purpose of a detox is to eliminate toxins ( such as cigarette residue, chemicals, heavy metals, and environmental elements) from the body by turning them into waste. That waste is then eliminated. The goal is to enhance the body's detoxification pathways (primarily the liver). The liver is the body's main detoxification organ.

Detoxing involves a change in diet and lifestyle. It can also include taking herbs and visiting saunas to induce sweating.

The purpose of a cleanse is to clean out the digestive tract. This includes eliminating toxins, fecal matter, parasites, and fungi from the digestive tract.

Q: How would I know if I need to cleanse or detox my body?

A: The body sends us signs and alarms to indicate that it is in distress or not functioning properly.

Some signs of toxicity include:

  1. Fatigue
  2. Headaches
  3. Joint Pain
  4. Food sensitivities or allergies
  5. Mood swings
  6. Anxiety and depression
  7. High Blood Pressure
  8. Constipation
  9. Muscle aches, and muscle fatigue

Q: Can I use the herbs on your site if I am taking medications?

A: At Plant Life Vegan Foods, we offer information from an educational standpoint only. We are not medical doctors. Please consult your physician before implementing any herbs into your diet, or discontinuing the use of any medications.

Q: Can I detox, cleanse, or fast while pregnant or breastfeeding?

A: No, we do not suggest that you partake in any detox, cleanse, or fast while pregnant or breastfeeding. Any of these processes can potentially cause harm to the unborn child. During breastfeeding toxins can leach into the milk supply and be passed on to baby.

Q: I have very specific concerns and needs regarding my health and wellness and feel I would benefit from one on one support, what is the best option for me?

A: Please email us to discuss your options. You may benefit from either a consultation or our health coaching services.
